Writing an eBook is not a very old practice. But now there are many people who prefer to choose it as a career. If you are thinking the same thing, then you must read this article carefully. There are few things (except the idea of eBook) which play major role in a success of an eBook or failure of it. Here we provide a few tips to make your eBook writing skills more excellent than before.
Study Your Targeted Devices or Applications
EBooks are compatible with a huge variety of apps and reading devices. But there is still a slight different among them. If you want your eBook to open properly in a particular device or app then read the instructions about that device or market for a good judgment.
There are various applications in market to test your eBook compatibility with different devices. Or you can use your own device or smart phone app to test the eBook before submitting it for publishing. Most of the publishing markets like kindle and nook provide you their own specialized software to test your book in actual simulation of their devices. So you can see that how will your book appear on actual device.
Here are some general tips which are used in almost all the publishing markets.
- Use Indents instead of tabs and spacing. To do this in MS Word 2007, go to Home>>Paragraph and then increase or decrease indents.
- It is very important to use Page Break after each Chapter. If you don’t use it, the device or application cannot distinguish between two different pages, and as a result the words of different chapter will be mixed. To do this in MS Word 2007, go to Insert>>Pages and then page break. Or you can simple press Ctrl + Enter after Chapter.
- Do not use Header or Footer in eBook formats. They might be good for a word or pdf file but not very supporting in eBooks.
- It is highly recommended not to Copy Paste images in ebooks, for that purpose go to Insert>>Illustrations and then select Picture and then choose your image to insert it in document.
